Let’s make that why are we here?

Thomas Struth, Audience 2 (Galleriea Dell’Accademia), Florence, IT 2004

Once we get the breathing and eating and drinking stuff out of the way there is that whole communing with our species.  In that silly imprecise set of symbols known as our language.  “I’m going to the store. Now.”  “Okay, be careful.”  Silly right.  Silly, because we are all so much more than that and we all want to say so much more each time we are near someone else.  Tell them how much we love their smell or how we admire them ore than any other person, or I you could you would kill them.  Still just words.  Here we have before us an ancient language.  I hesitate to call it art because ART itself have become mostly marginalized except for the professionals – the art makers, the art buyers, and the art administrators.  Sure it plays a role, although less and less, in the lives of children but let’s face it what the heck is art doing for you? Would you go to the museum or anywhere to see art the same way you would go see Springsteen or Toy Story?  Maybe it is part of your cultural intake, and if so congratulations.  And what do you do when you get there?  Are you really getting the most for your experience?  Maybe, but why not take the simple few steps laid out in artdiary and you can make the call your self.
